Puppy daycare is it important?
In today’s busy environment with two-income families most of us
lack the time to properly care for a new puppy. We are at work 8 to 10
hours a day and feel guilty about leaving our puppy locked in a crate all day.
Our guilt is not misplaced; leading researchers recommend that a puppy not be
crated for longer than a 1-hour interval for every 4 weeks of age. An 8 week old
puppy should not be left
unattended
in a crate for longer than 2 hours. Puppies that are crated too long can begin
to act out and develop bad habits that if not corrected can lead to problems in
their adult lives. The good news is that these problems can be prevented. By
nature, puppies 8 to 16 weeks old are focused on learning. Puppies do control
their actions and actually learn from
doing or trying new things. You can enhance this process by reinforcing the
behaviors you want to encourage. This takes commitment on the part of the Owner.
If you don't have the time to home school your puppy then you should consider
puppy daycare, at Puppy Head Start.
